Winter Activities


Banff Gondola

When visiting Banff National Park in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.... see more mountains in a moment than most see in a lifetime! Ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain to experience a bird's eye view of six mountain ranges.

Banff Gondola is located just 5 minutes from the Town of Banff, on the shoulder of Sulphur Mountain, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. The 360° view from the upper gondola terminal, view-decks and Summit Ridge interpretive boardwalk, is the very best vantage point in the west. Safely seated in 4 passenger gondola cabins, visitors are transported in 8 minutes to the summit at an elevation of 2,281m (7,486 ft) above sea level.

Banff Gondola - Alpine Lights

Take the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain to enjoy an Alberta Beef Prime Rib dinner, whilst overlooking the twinkling lights of the town of Banff below. 

Menu includes:

  • House salad
  • Alberta prime rib
  • Baked potato with traditional toppings
  • Seasonal vegetables
  • Artisan breads

Banff Upper Hot Springs

You will luxuriate in the comfort of soothing hot springs where travelers have come to "take the waters" for more than a century. Banff's premier attraction offers:

  • Hot Springs and Spa open daily, year-round
  • Restored 1930's heritage bathhouse
  • Outdoor mineral spring fed hot pool with views of famous Mount Rundle
  • Children's wading area in pool
  • Spacious change rooms with heated floors.

Water Temperature is kept between 37 and 40 degrees celsius or 98 and 104 Fahrenheit.

Dogsled Tours

Ice Walks

Choose from our spectacular Ice Walks. At Johnston Canyon walk on steel catwalks to spectacular frozen waterfalls. At Grotto Canyon,  walk on a frozen creek bed with ancient pictographs on the canyon walls, or experience the evening Ice Walk and explore the canyon by head lamp.

Snow Tubing

Whether you've never touched skis or a snowboard, or just want to try something different, snow tubing is a great way down the hill.

Cave Tours

Descend into the caves on Grotto Mountain. This 4km long limestone wonder was created by huge quantities of water from extinct glaciers. Highly trained, internationally experienced guides lead you through twisting passageways - etched over hundreds of thousands of years - to large chambers, mineral formations, animal bones and fossils.

Ice Climbing

Waterfall Ice Climbing is an unbelievably exhilarating sport and we invite you to experience it with your own expert private guide.

Full Day or half-day ice climb lessons are available for individuals or groups in Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise and cater to all abilities, from the beginner climber to advanced climbers.

Tour gear includes: Boots, Crampons, Ice Tools, Safety Harness and Helmets.

Ice Fishing

Set high in the snow covered Rocky Mountains, the air is clean and the lake, with vast expanses of untracked snow, is not crowded. Enjoy an ice fishing experience in the heart of some of the most breathtaking scenery. 

Ice fishing is for Lake Trout and Rocky Mountain whitefish and the technique used is an easy way for the novice and expert to catch fish.

Snowmobiling is one of the most adrenaline-pumping, action-packed winter adventures.

Operating outside the Banff National Park boundaries ( in Golden or Panorama ) tours start out with a follow the leader style, while participants gain in confidence and elevation. Once you reach the open bowls, most people are ready to let loose and have some fun in deep powder. All tours are guided.
